This is a blog where I hope to post occasional thoughts about the experience of being black in America for more than 50 years -- being a kind of black that, surprisingly often, gets treated as not-black-enough.

In fact, it is a myth that there is one black community and one way to be black (being African American is one of them, but not the only one) in the United States today.

I welcome comments, thoughts, anything that adds to the discussion without diminishing or denigrating (don't I wish that meant taking away the blackness of) another writer on this site.
